About the Visionary Award

The George Cunningham Visionary Award in Newborn Screening honors a person working in US newborn screening who has made the greatest contribution to expanding or improving the screening of newborns by public health agencies in one or more states, with direct improvements to the quality of life of newborns and their families.

Formal recognition for this award takes place at the APHL Newborn Screening Symposium.

Criteria for Nomination

The contribution of the recipient must have had a direct effect in improving the quality of life of newborns and their families.
The award is for lifetime achievements.
